🔪 Mahikeng Horror: New Details Emerge After Son Hacks Mother to Death, Then Gets Shot by Neighbour

Mahikeng, North West — The brutal killing of a woman allegedly hacked to death by her own son continues to send shockwaves across South Africa, as police confirm new details and urge the public to stop circulating the disturbing video of the attack.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the 25-year-old suspect attacked his mother with a spade in full view of neighbours in Montshiwa, Mahikeng. The shocking scene was captured on video and quickly spread online — something police now strongly discourage, citing respect for the victim and ongoing investigations.

SAPS confirmed that the horrific incident resulted in two deaths — the mother, who was fatally attacked, and the son, who was later shot by a neighbour attempting to stop the assault. Police say the neighbour intervened to protect the victim and community members. The suspect was shot and later died from his injuries. Authorities are now investigating the full circumstances surrounding both deaths.

While the motive behind the killing remains unclear, police have not ruled out the possibility of drug abuse or occult influences. The SAPS Occult-Related Crimes Unit has been called in to assist with the investigation, a move that suggests authorities are exploring every possible angle — from mental instability to ritualistic elements. At this stage, however, SAPS emphasizes that no conclusive motive has been established.

Acting North West Provincial Commissioner Major General Patrick Asaneng condemned the brutal killing, calling it “sadistic, gruesome and senseless.” He added that such violent acts often show warning signs beforehand — emotional distress, substance abuse, or erratic behaviour — and urged families to seek help early when they notice troubling changes in loved ones.

In a public statement, SAPS reminded South Africans that sharing violent content not only re-traumatises families but also interferes with official investigations. Citizens are encouraged to report the video instead of forwarding it on social media.

Authorities have yet to confirm the identity of the neighbour who fired the fatal shot, or whether the shooting will be treated as self-defence or lead to further legal review. The psychological or ritualistic motives behind the attack also remain unclear. As of now, police have made no arrests related to the incident, focusing instead on uncovering what led to the tragedy.

Residents of Montshiwa describe the event as something “no one should ever witness.” Many are struggling to comprehend how an ordinary household could turn into a scene of such horror. The community now awaits further updates from investigators — and justice for the mother whose life was brutally taken.
