VIDEO: WATCH A YOUNG MAN FROM MAHIKENG HACKING HIS OWN MOTHER WITH A SPADE AND RIPPING OFF HER BODY
Mahikeng Horror: Son Allegedly Hacks His Mother to Death with a Spade
MAHIKENG, NORTH WEST — The quiet community of Mosiane View village in Mahikeng was left in shock on Saturday, 4 October 2025, after a 25-year-old man allegedly hacked his 48-year-old mother to death with a spade in what residents described as one of the most horrific incidents they have ever witnessed.
According to police reports, the gruesome attack took place at around 11:00 a.m. Neighbours reported hearing screams coming from the family’s home before rushing over to find the young man allegedly striking his mother repeatedly with a spade. A video of the brutal assault later circulated on social media, sparking outrage and disbelief across the country.
SAPS spokesperson Colonel Adele Myburgh confirmed that when officers arrived at the scene, both the mother and her son were found with severe injuries. “The suspect was reportedly shot by a neighbour who tried to stop the assault. He later succumbed to his injuries,” Myburgh said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman died instantly from her wounds. The neighbour who intervened is said to have acted in self-defence and to protect the victim, but police are continuing to investigate all circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Residents of Mosiane View say the young man had been acting strangely in the days leading up to the attack. Some claimed he had been using drugs, while others whispered about possible links to dark rituals or mental health issues. “He was quiet but different lately. We never thought he would do this to his own mother,” said one shocked neighbour.
Authorities have called in the SAPS Occult-Related Crimes Unit to assist in the investigation, given the unusual and disturbing nature of the attack. Police have not ruled out drug influence or psychological factors and are awaiting the results of forensic tests.
North West Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Sello Kwena condemned the incident and appealed to the public to stop sharing the disturbing video online. “This is a deeply tragic and traumatic event for the family and the community. Sharing such content is both unlawful and insensitive,” Kwena said.
Counselling services have since been arranged for witnesses and relatives who were traumatized by the incident. Community leaders and church groups in Mahikeng are also expected to hold a candlelight vigil later this week to mourn the mother’s death and call for unity in fighting domestic violence and drug abuse.
Police urge anyone with information about the incident or footage of the moments leading up to it to come forward as the investigation continues.
