Man Allegedly Confesses to Poisoning Friend in Emotional Live Video

A man identified in social-media discussions as Sminandi Phalane sparked widespread shock this week after publishing a live video in which he claimed responsibility for the death of his close friend. In the emotional recording, Phalane alleges that he poisoned his friend and later attended the funeral, all while concealing his involvement.

In the video—now circulating widely online—Phalane appears distressed as he recounts the events leading up to his friend’s death. According to his own claims, he administered poison and then joined the mourners at the funeral service. Viewers noted that in the funeral footage, he is present but does not sing with the rest of the congregation, a detail that some social-media users have revisited in light of his confession.

Phalane says his motivation for speaking out now stems from what he describes as being “haunted” by his friend’s spirit, insisting that the guilt and psychological burden have intensified in recent months.

Following the alleged incident, Phalane says he turned to religion. In the live video he explains that he began attending a church—referred to as AVG Church—and was eventually baptised as a prophet there. He also claims he created a narrative for those around him, telling people that God wanted him to isolate himself so he could “gain more power to help others.” He now says this was a lie driven by guilt and fear.

The turning point, according to Phalane, was the persistent feeling of being haunted by the friend he claims to have killed. This, he says, is what pushed him to record a public apology. In the video, he expresses remorse and asks for forgiveness from the community and from those who trusted him.

Social-media users have responded with a mix of shock, anger, and confusion. Many are calling for authorities to investigate the claims, while others question the mental state of the individual and the authenticity of the confession. As of now, no official statements or confirmations have been released regarding the incident or any potential legal actions.
