A 10-YEAR-OLD BOY ALLEGEDLY TURNED INTO A TOKOLOSHI/UMKHOVU FOR TWO YEARS — WATCH VIDEO OF THE SHOCKING DISCOVERY IN RURAL KZN

Reports emerging from the Mshazi area near Mzimkhulu have left residents shocked and deeply disturbed. A 10-year-old boy is alleged to have been confined and subjected to severe abuse for two years in what community members believe were witchcraft practices.

According to accounts circulating in the Gugwini region, the child had been living with his father and the father’s younger sister after his mother reportedly left him in their care before seeking work in Durban but later passed away. It is alleged that during this period, the boy was kept locked inside the house and treated as an “umkhovu” — a term some use to describe a person believed to be spiritually manipulated or turned into a “zombie-like” servant through witchcraft.

Community members claim the child was used in rituals believed to ward off lightning. During thunderstorms, he was allegedly placed on the roof and tied down with chains. It is further alleged that he was severely neglected, receiving food only once a month and drinking water from a basin used by dogs.

Residents also claim the boy was forced to perform mysterious night duties within the community. Some allege he was used by his father and aunt to carry out tasks linked to witchcraft practices after dark.

The situation reportedly came to light when a new bride joined the household and became alarmed by what she witnessed. She is said to have alerted authorities, prompting police intervention. The matter is now under investigation.

Locals claim the family has long been feared due to alleged involvement in witchcraft. Stories circulate about the late grandfather, who villagers claim was seen wandering the area after his death, supposedly awaiting his wife. While these claims remain unverified and rooted in local belief, they have contributed to an atmosphere of fear surrounding the household.

The case has shaken residents, raising serious concerns about child safety, cultural beliefs, and the dangers of harmful practices carried out under the guise of superstition. Authorities have not yet released official details, and investigations are ongoing. Community members are calling for swift action to ensure the child’s safety and to hold any responsible parties accountable.
