Johannesburg, South Africa — The South African entertainment industry is reeling after the tragic shooting death of Warrick Stock, widely known as DJ Warras, in the Johannesburg Central Business District on Tuesday afternoon. The beloved radio and television personality was fatally shot in broad daylight, leaving fans, colleagues, and the public deeply shocked. 

According to police and eyewitness reports, Stock had just parked his vehicle near the corner of Von Wielligh and Commissioner Street, opposite the iconic Carlton Centre, when three unknown suspects approached him and opened fire before fleeing on foot. The motive for the attack remains unknown, and no arrests have yet been made as authorities continue their investigation.

A Life and Career Remembered

Warrick Stock, 40, was a respected figure in South Africa’s media landscape. He built his career over more than a decade, beginning in radio with stations including YFM5FM, and CliffCentral, and later gaining widespread recognition as a charismatic television presenter. Colleagues remember him not only for his passion for music and media but also for his sharp wit and vibrant personality. 

Tributes have poured in from across the entertainment sector and beyond. Fellow media personalities and fans took to social media to express their grief, remembering him as a generous and outspoken personality who connected with audiences across the country. Senior officials, including the Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, have publicly expressed condolences, highlighting the profound loss felt nationwide.

Family Appeals for Privacy 

In the aftermath of the shooting, DJ Warras’s family has appealed for privacy as they mourn the sudden loss. His sister, Nicole Stock, urged the public and media to respect their space and allow authorities to complete the ongoing investigation. 

At the scene, family and friends were seen quietly washing the pavement where he was killed, a solemn gesture aimed at restoring dignity to the site of the tragedy. 

Johannesburg police confirmed that a murder case has been opened and investigators are following leads, including reviewing CCTV footage and gathering statements from witnesses. Authorities have called on anyone with information to come forward to assist with the case. 

The loss of DJ Warras has sparked conversations about safety, violence in public spaces, and the well-being of those in the public eye.
