Domestic Violence Rocks South Africa: 31-Year-Old Woman Hospitalized, Faces Arrest for Burning Boyfriend's Car
A disturbing case of domestic violence has unfolded in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, with 31-year-old Snenhlanhla Nenezane Mthembu accusing her 24-year-old boyfriend, Andile Junior Junior, of physical abuse. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and highlighted the pervasive issue of gender-based violence in the country.
Mthembu, a Durban-based hairstylist, shared her harrowing experience on Instagram, claiming Andile had been abusing her physically since they started dating. She alleged he kicked her multiple times in the head and assaulted her with a pipe. The police arrested Andile after Mthembu reported the incident at Umlazi police station.
However, Mthembu is now facing countercharges of assault and malicious damage to property. She's currently hospitalized due to burn wounds sustained while setting Andile's car on fire, which she streamed on Instagram Live. Once discharged, she'll be arrested and face charges.
The KwaZulu-Natal Premier's Office has acknowledged the incident and promised to engage with the matter. Actress Nomzamo Mbatha has expressed support for Mthembu, calling for accountability and action against domestic violence .
