Mamelodi Double Murder: Suspect Arrested After Tragic Shooting of Two Cousins
The quiet township of Mamelodi East is once again shaken by tragedy. What began as a horrific Sunday morning discovery has now led to the arrest of a 38-year-old man, believed to be behind the cold-blooded killing of two young women — cousins Tshiamo Moramaga (22) and Baleseng Moramaga (21).
According to police reports, the two were found lying lifeless on the streets of Mamelodi East in the early hours of Sunday, 26 October 2025. Both had suffered fatal gunshot wounds to the head. A third person, who was with them at the time, survived the attack and is currently in hospital under police protection.
After intense investigations, the South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed on Monday that they have arrested a 38-year-old male suspect in connection with the brutal murders. The arrest was carried out by a specialized team from Gauteng’s Serious and Violent Crime Unit, Crime Intelligence, and Mamelodi East detectives.
The suspect was apprehended at a petrol station in Pretoria, following days of tracking and coordinated police efforts. His arrest has brought a glimmer of hope to a devastated community that has been demanding justice since the shocking incident.
He is facing two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder and is expected to appear in the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court later this week.
Family members of Tshiamo and Baleseng say the two young women were more than cousins — they were best friends, always seen together. Their deaths have left their family broken and the entire community mourning.
Residents of Mamelodi have expressed both anger and fear, calling for more police visibility and better protection for young women in the township. The double murder has once again raised the painful question of why violence against women continues to rise despite ongoing campaigns and awareness efforts.
Police are still investigating the motive behind the killings. Early reports suggest that the suspect may have known the victims personally, but authorities have not yet confirmed this detail. The SAPS has urged the public to allow the investigation to unfold while they gather all necessary evidence to secure a conviction.
While the arrest brings a sense of relief, it also reopens deep emotional wounds. For many, it’s not just about the suspect being behind bars — it’s about understanding why this tragedy happened and ensuring it never happens again.
As Mamelodi waits for the court appearance, the community stands united in grief and in hope that justice for Tshiamo and Baleseng will prevail.
