Mamelodi Murderer Faces Court for Killing Two Cousins
The quiet towns
hip of Mamelodi was once again shaken as the man accused of killing two young cousins appeared in court today. The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Tebogo Mnisi, is facing two counts of murder and an additional charge of attempted murder following the brutal shooting that left the community in disbelief.
The victims, Tshiamo Moramaga (22) and Baleseng Moramaga (21), were found lifeless near a roadside in Mamelodi East, Extension 17, over the weekend. The two cousins were reportedly last seen in the company of the accused shortly before gunshots were heard. A third person who was with them survived the shooting but remains in hospital.
According to witnesses, an argument broke out between the cousins and the suspect moments before the deadly shooting. Police investigations revealed that the accused fled the scene but was later tracked down and arrested at a filling station in Pretoria after an intense manhunt.
During his first court appearance at the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court, Mnisi appeared calm and showed little emotion as he faced a packed courtroom filled with angry residents and grieving family members. The accused decided not to apply for bail, and the case was postponed to 19 January 2026 for further investigation.
Outside the courthouse, a crowd of emotional residents gathered, holding placards and chanting for justice. Many demanded that Mnisi never be released, calling for the courts to “make an example” out of him.
Government departments, including the Ministry of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, have applauded the swift arrest, condemning the killings as senseless acts of violence. Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga described the murder of the cousins as a “heartbreaking tragedy that robs families of their future.”
Family members of the victims say they are still struggling to understand what led to the argument that ended their loved ones’ lives. “We just want to know why,” said a relative outside court. “They were young, full of life, and had dreams.”
The case has reignited anger and fear among Mamelodi residents, who say violence and gun crime have become too common in the area. For now, the community waits in hope that justice will be served and that the souls of the two cousins will finally rest in peace.
