When School Turns Into a Drinking Spot

When School Turns Into a Drinking Spot: The Shocking Truth Behind Our Learners’ Alcohol Habits

As a teacher, I never thought I would say this — but our school has turned into a drinking ground for learners. For months, we assumed that some of our students were arriving at school already drunk. We blamed the morning hours, the smell of alcohol, and their behaviour on what must have happened before they got to school. But what we recently discovered left us speechless.

A video surfaced showing a group of girls in the school toilets pouring a bottle of *Savanna* into a juice bottle to share among themselves. It was all laughter and excitement for them, but for us teachers, it was a moment of deep disappointment. To realize that this was happening right under our noses — during school hours, on school grounds — is something we can’t take lightly.

Now, the big question remains: **where do these underage learners get alcohol?** Taverns are not supposed to sell to minors, yet these children somehow have access. Are they being served illegally at local taverns? Or are they simply taking what they find at home — leftovers from their parents’ fridges? Either way, it’s a wake-up call for all of us.

This is not just a school issue anymore. It’s a **community issue**. Parents, tavern owners, teachers, and local authorities must come together to protect our children from a growing culture of underage drinking that’s eating away at their future.

We are inviting **all parents, community members, and tavern owners** to a special school meeting this **Friday**. It’s time we face this problem head-on, not to point fingers, but to find real solutions.

Our learners deserve better guidance, better discipline, and a better future — free from the bottle that’s slowly destroying their potential.
