Confession of a Sangoma: When Muti Destroys Love

I write this not to brag or expose secrets, but because my spirit has not been at peace. As a sangoma, I am a healer, not a destroyer — yet sometimes the work we are asked to do turns dark before our eyes.

Some months ago, a woman came to me — a hurt and angry baby mama from Venda. She told me stories of betrayal, of a man who left her for another woman, and of a family she believed had been broken by this “new girl.” Her pain was deep, her eyes swollen from crying, and her words filled with anger. She wanted revenge, not healing.

I warned her that using muti to interfere with love always brings suffering to everyone involved, including the one who sends it. But she insisted. She even brought a picture of the couple — her ex and his new girlfriend. I could see that she had already made up her mind, so against my better judgement, I helped her prepare what she asked for.

It wasn’t long before I started hearing the results. The once-happy couple began fighting every weekend. The man, who used to work hard and stay sober, turned to alcohol. He started losing money, then stealing from his girlfriend just to feed his addiction. Neighbours say their arguments have become violent — the kind that leaves bruises not just on the body but also on the soul.

That is when my heart grew heavy. I knew the energy that caused this chaos was the very one I helped set in motion. I went back to the baby mama and begged her to come back so we could reverse the spell, but she refused. She blocked me, saying she had finally found peace knowing they were suffering like she once did.

Now I live with the guilt of knowing that my hands helped create a storm that could end two lives. The worst part is that the curse can’t be lifted by me alone. Both the man and the woman need to cleanse themselves together, or the one who started it — the baby mama — must come forward to undo what she began. Until that happens, they will keep tearing each other apart.

If the couple ever sees this message, please understand — you are under a spiritual attack. You need cleansing and guidance from a healer who walks in light. Do not wait until your anger turns into something irreversible. Go for cleansing, together, before you destroy each other completely.

As for me, I have learned a painful lesson. Power without conscience is poison. Not all requests deserve to be granted, especially when they come from broken hearts.
