Rustenburg Cash-In-Transit Heist Ends in Suspect Taking His Own Life
A dramatic attempted money heist in Rustenburg ended in tragedy after one of the suspects shot himself in the head during a shoot-out with cash-in-transit security officers.
According to witnesses, the incident unfolded when a group of heavily armed suspects attempted to ambush a money truck, hoping to seize cash ahead of the festive season. The man believed to be the ringleader had reportedly told close friends he was relying on this robbery as his “Christmas bonus plan.”
The attempt failed.
A fierce exchange of gunfire broke out between the suspects and security officials. During the chaos, the man was struck by a bullet. Realising he was severely injured and that escape was impossible, he turned the gun on himself and took his own life.
His accomplices fled the scene, abandoning him as he lay wounded on the ground. Emergency responders later confirmed that he died on site.
Police have launched a manhunt for the remaining suspects, while the disturbing video of the man’s final moments has been circulating on social media, prompting warnings due to its graphic nature.
Authorities have urged the public to avoid sharing the video any further out of respect for the deceased’s family and for ongoing investigative purposes.
