Limpopo in Shock: 76-Year-Old Gogo Allegedly Murdered by Boyfriend After Repeated Pleads for Protection

Residents of Limpopo are reeling in shock and grief following the brutal killing of 76-year-old Gogo Annah Mosibudi Malatji in Rwanda Village, Letsitele. The elderly woman was allegedly stabbed to death in the early hours of Sunday, 8 February, in an attack that has left her family traumatised and fearful for their safety.

According to reports, Gogo Annah was attacked inside her home after an argument with her 43-year-old boyfriend. Her daughter, Beatrice, says a neighbour rushed to the house after hearing the disturbance. Upon arrival, the neighbour found the elderly woman lying in a pool of blood, with multiple stab wounds to her upper body.

The family believes she was stabbed in the heart during the altercation. They also suspect that her SASSA grant may have been a source of conflict, a tragic reminder of how financial vulnerability can place elderly citizens at risk.

What makes the tragedy even more painful, the family says, is that Gogo Annah had reportedly sought help multiple times before her death. According to her daughter, she reported the suspect to the police on six separate occasions, pleading for protection. Despite these reports, no effective action was taken.

Now, the family says they are living in fear. They worry that the suspect could be granted bail and may return to harm them. They are pleading with the court to keep him in custody to ensure their safety and to deliver justice for their mother.

This heartbreaking incident has reignited conversations about the protection of elderly citizens, gender-based violence, and the responsibility of authorities to act when victims seek help. Community members have expressed outrage and sorrow, calling for accountability and stronger intervention measures to prevent such tragedies.

As the investigation continues, the people of Limpopo mourn the loss of a grandmother whose life ended violently despite repeated cries for help — a stark reminder that more must be done to protect the vulnerable in our communities.
