TWO FREE STATE WOMEN MURDERED FOR SAVANNAS WORTH R500 BY ZAMA ZAMAS
Five Illegal Foreigners Nationals Arrested for Double Murder of Women in Namibia Square, Free State
The women were killed after allegedly refusing to leave with zama-zamas who spent nearly R500 on drinks for them.
Police have arrested five foreign nationals, aged between 31 and 40, following the murder of two unidentified women in Namibia Square, Mangaung, Free State. Officers discovered the bodies early on Sunday, 08 February 2026, prompting an intelligence-led investigation that quickly led to the suspects’ apprehension.
According to police, the victims were found at about 01:50 lying on the street with fatal gunshot wounds and were declared dead on the scene. By 13:30, the Provincial Tracking and Tracing Team, working with the Parkweg Tactical Response Team, intercepted a white Toyota Quantum with four occupants on the same street. Officers recovered an unlicensed 9mm pistol with six rounds of ammunition.
A local resident told said the suspects, reportedly Lesotho nationals linked to illegal mining, killed the women after an incident involving alcohol. The resident said the suspects claimed they had spent nearly R500 buying drinks for the women, apparently expecting them to come with the men after the tavern closed.
The five suspects face charges including two counts of murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and contravention of the Immigration Act. They are expected to appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court as investigations continue to determine the motive and confirm the identities of the victims.
